Three Things You Can Do This Summer To Find a Job or Internship

Summer vacation is a great time to build your network and work on your job or internship search.

Here are 4 things that you can do over the summer eventually pay off with a job or internship.

  1. Update your LinkedIn profile and start looking for UB alums in your field of interest. Let’s say you want to get into social media marketing. Put those keywords in the LinkedIn search box and search by “People”, then filter it by the school they attended and add University at Buffalo. You will see a list of UB alums who do social media marketing or whatever key word you use. Then invite one of those to connect with you on LinkedIn by sending a personalized invitation mentioning your interest in connecting with them. Once they accept your connection request, you can set up a meeting with them by messaging them some days and time slots you are available and ask which one works for them.Three good questions to ask when you meet with them online or in-person:
✔ How did you get started?
✔ What advice do you have for me?
✔ Who else would be helpful to talk to?
  2. Get into Connect-a-Bull, UB’s new alumni-student networking tool. It takes just a few minutes to sign up and create a profile synced with your LinkedIn profile. Once you have a profile in Connect-a-Bull, click on Connect and then Group and join the Arts, Design, Entertainment + Communications Career Community. Next click on Connect and then Community and the Search the 2500 plus UB alums in the platform by a keyword like, media, arts, design, entertainment, etc. Then you’ll see alums that you can message to schedule a meeting that will be set up right on the platform. Just send them some days and time slots and when they pick a time hit “Schedule Meeting”. Super easy, and they are in the platform because they want to help you.
  3. Schedule a Career Design Consultant Appointment to talk with one of our Career Consultants. Choose a virtual or in-person ap)pointment.

Have a great summer!
