Applications Now Open for SHPEP and MSIPI

We are thrilled to share that the 2025 applications for the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) and the Minority Serving Institution Pathway Initiative (MSIPI) are now open! These programs represent an incredible opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in the health professions.

What’s New This Year?

For the first time, students can use a single application to apply to both SHPEP and MSIPI sites, selecting up to three locations total. This streamlined process makes it easier for students to explore and access these transformative programs.

The Minority Serving Institution Pathway Initiative (MSIPI) is a groundbreaking, AAMC-funded program designed to increase access to health professions for students. MSIPI combines virtual and in-person programming, offering tailored support and culturally enriched experiences:

  1. Tilikum Summer Health Experience

The Tilikum Summer Health Experience at Portland State University, in collaboration with the Northwest Native American Center of Excellence (NNACoE) at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), offers a unique and immersive experience for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) undergraduate students interested in health professions. The program combines academic enrichment, professional development, and cultural engagement to prepare students for future careers in healthcare while staying connected to their Indigenous heritage.

Tilikum features three weeks of virtual programming followed by two weeks of in-person activities at PSU and OHSU. Students will engage in core science courses, cultural wellness activities, clinical shadowing, and professional development workshops, all within a supportive and culturally responsive environment.

  1. Aspiring Scholars in Undergraduate Pre-Medicine Program

Albany State University’s (ASU) Aspiring Scholars in Undergraduate Pre-Medicine Program at Albany Georgia offers a dynamic collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine and University of Connecticut Health School of Medicine to provide an exclusive opportunity through exposure in a comprehensive educational experience to Bridge Excellence through Diverse Exposures in Medicine. The program combines academic enrichment, professional development, and cultural engagement to prepare students for future careers in health care while staying connected to ASU.

MSIPI honors the heritage, traditions, and values of American Indian, Alaska Native, and African American communities, fostering an environment where students can thrive while gaining the skills, knowledge, and mentorship necessary for success.
