Upcoming Events to Jumpstart Your Career: Digital Marketing, Publishing, and More

This past Thursday, the University at Buffalo hosted its first ever Publishing Launch, an event designed to connect students with professionals in the publishing field. Despite low student turnout, each of the ten participants had the chance to directly connect with four senior professionals in the publishing industry. At least half of the attendees walked away with inside tracks towards potential internships or other opportunities; a truly incredible outcome in today’s job market.

In the world of sales, we would call that “high value lead conversion.” In other words, this event provided a great deal of value for interested students.

There are several other events coming up this month that might pique your interest, each designed to help you in your career journey.

Digital Marketing Day

Tuesday, October 21st, 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

Explore the possibilities of a future in digital marketing at Digital Marketing Day, a dynamic paneling/networking event designed to connect you with employers and entrepreneurs in the digital marketing space. Whether you’re interested in content strategy, SEO, social media, paid advertising, influencer marketing or analytics, this is your chance to hear directly from those in the field. Afterwards, you’ll have an opportunity to network with panelists and build relationships that could one day lead to employment.

Beyond the Brand: Fashion, Design, and Entertainment with New Era Cap

Thursday, October 9th, 12:00 – 12:45 pm.

Step into the fast-paced world of fashion, design, and entertainment at UB’s Employer Showcase, where Buffalo’s leading company in the industry will connect with students ready to bring creativity, strategy and data-driven thinking to the table. Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to attend and learn more.

Publishing Careers Panel Discussion

Thursday, October 23rd, 4:00 – 5:00 pm. (Virtual)

A virtual conversation with professionals in the publishing industry, and the perfect follow-up to the in-person event last week. Join Ed Brodka and a panel of UB alumni to learn about how they got started in the industry and hear some practical tips about how you can be successful in publishing.

The best way to secure an internship or improve your chances of employment after graduation is to build genuine connections in your industry. Any of these events would be a great place to start.

Mark your calendars, bring your questions, and take tangible action toward your career goals!
