Your Future in Arts, Advocacy & Impact Starts Here

Your Future in Arts, Advocacy & Impact Starts Here

Mark your calendar for the University at Buffalo Hiring Summit: Arts, Advocacy + Impact 2026 on March 2, from 12:00–3:00 PM at the Center for the Arts. If you’re interested in public service, communications, media, nonprofit work, policy, or mission-driven careers, this fair is for you. You’ll have the chance to connect directly with employers who are actively recruiting for internships and full-time roles and who are excited to meet students from a wide range of majors and backgrounds.

This is an opportunity to explore meaningful work, ask real questions, and start building connections that can shape your next step.

Employer Spotlight: SUNY Washington Internship Program

You’ll meet the SUNY Washington Internship Program at the Hiring Summit. They offer an opportunity for SUNY students to gain hands-on, for-credit internship experience in Washington, D.C. across public service, policy, advocacy, and leadership spaces. Here’s what they had to say:

What does your organization do and how does it create impact?
The program places students in internships on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, nonprofits, think tanks, and international organizations. Students also participate in coursework, site visits, seminars, and alumni panels to deepen their understanding of how government and advocacy work in practice.

How can UB students stand out at the Hiring Summit?
Be curious and authentic. Share what excites you about public service or D.C., talk about skills you want to build, and ask thoughtful questions about mentorship and career pathways.

What questions do you like to hear from students?

  • How do students grow over the semester?
  • What internships fit with my major or interests?
  • How does the program support students who are new to D.C.?
  • What do alumni go on to do after the program?

These questions speak to a student’s genuine interest in the program.

What types of opportunities should students be excited about?
Internships in congressional offices, federal agencies, nonprofits, advocacy groups, public policy, research, communications, health, law, international affairs, and constituent services.

What skills and qualities do you value most in students?
Strong communication, professionalism, curiosity, initiative, openness to feedback, and a willingness to grow. No prior D.C. experience required.
