Here is an excellent research opportunity at a lab located in Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This position would be a great fit for premedical students given its location and that it is run by a physician-scientist, Dr. John Hu. Dr. Hu has provided me with invaluable advice and excellent mentorship during my application cycle and beyond. As I am heading to medical school this year, I would love to pass this opportunity along to another student.
You will be conducting clinically relevant research, particularly on extracellular vesicles (EVs) collected from patients with diseases such as COPD and Long Covid.
Possible tasks may include:
- Cell culture work
- Molecular biology such as Western blots
- Operating an EV quantification instrument called the Izon Exoid
- Flow Cytometry
- EV isolation via ultracentrifugation or size exclusion column
Given that Dr. Hu also works as an infectious disease physician, however, he will not be available in the lab all the time.
Therefore, we are looking for someone who is:
- A fast learner
- Able to operate relatively independently after training
- Have wet bench experience
- Available to start sometime this summer so I can train them before I leave in August (I will also remain available by phone for questions afterward)
