The University at Buffalo Libraries are seeking motivated Delivery Services student assistants to support our library services across multiple campus locations. Join a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing the library user experience and providing exceptional customer service.
Position Details
Start Date: July 2026 or during semester; continued employment contingent on performance
Hours: Part-time (up to 20 hours per week during the semester). However, during the summer shifts may be as little as 1 or 2 per week.
Commitment: Minimum one-year position
Locations: Abbott or Lockwood Library
Representative Responsibilities
Library student assistants will work in one or more of the following roles:

Customer Service & User Engagement: provide superior customer service to a diverse library user population; assist patrons with library technologies (scanners, printers, microfilm readers, media players); engage with patrons at tabling or social events; maintain a welcoming environment by enforcing policies; collect data on library usage
- Qualities of successful candidates: outgoing, empathic and ready to help, able to quickly adjust and learn new service workflows, comfortable with enforcing policies, skilled at deescalation

Fulfillment & Collection Management: pulling requested items, scanning and transiting requested items, emptying book drops, shelving returned material, shelf reading, shifting books, searching for missing items
- Qualities of successful candidates: extremely detail-oriented, enjoys repetitive work, comfortable with active environments (pushing, lifting, stooping), prefers behind-the-scenes work

Document Delivery & Lending: search for requested material; scan requested articles and book chapters; search for and package requested materials to be sent to partner libraries
- Qualities of successful candidates: able to master complex workflows, detail-oriented, able to review work for quality-assurance purposes
Required Qualifications
- Current University at Buffalo student enrollment
- Domestic students must be enrolled for at least 1 credit
- Ability to commit to a minimum one-year position
- Graduating Summer 2027 or later
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid social security number
- Library experience
- Enrolled in an Information & Library Sciences degree program or minor
Work Environment
- Multiple on-campus library locations
- Requires ability to: concentrate on detailed tasks with frequent interruptions; sit, stand, and move throughout library and adjacent campus buildings; occasionally reach, bend, stoop, crouch, and balance
- Potential exposure to dust and newsprint in library settings
