Job Posting for Work Study Position in the Department of History
The Department of History seeks to hire Work Study Students for Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or the AY 2024-2025.
Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply for this position students must be undergraduates enrolled at UB for the semester and meet the eligibility requirements for Federal Work Study.
Hours:
Work Study Students typically work 3-6 hours a week during normal Department business hours, M-F 8:30-5:00.
Pay:
$16 per hour
Position Summary:
This position supports the administrative office of the Department of History. Work Study Students will become familiar with working in a professional academic administrative environment with an emphasis on History and promotion of the study and importance of History. Students will gain a general sense of the needs of working in an academic department as well as the specific challenges and rewards of a department that promotes the vital importance of History education in the university and wider society.
Duties will include such tasks as:
- Welcoming visitors and students to the Department
- Answering Department phone calls in a professional and helpful manner
- Copying, scanning, and faxing materials
- Assisting with the preparation, set-up, and break down of Department events
- Retrieving and sorting mail
- Special Projects as assigned by Department Chair, Department Administrator, or Communications Coordinator such as:
- Assisting with large events including graduation
- Collecting materials for the documentation of the department and its historical importance
- Creating useful materials for better facilitation of Department administration
- Department supply inventory
