The Data Steward Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing a coordinated approach for defining, measuring, and improving the quality of the data, ensuring its fitness-for-purpose and alignment with the business needs that it serves.
Note: the “data stewards” are then assigned “go to” person within a department or assigned to a specific platform for all queries and usability of the data. Data stewards ensure the data is complete, accurate, and timely and that is useful to the departments in measuring performance and making improvements. Data Stewards may, or may not, be the person responsible for inputting the data.
Responsibilities
- Design and teach a curriculum to establish awareness and value of data literacy and stewardship principles across the Agency.
- Communicate roles and responsibilities of data stewards throughout the agency.
- Collaboratively develop and implement processes that balance centralized control and standardization with decentralized speed and flexibility.
- Define, gain consensus around, and communicate the roles and responsibilities of data stewards.
- Assist in identifying data owners and stewards.
- Assign data quality responsibilities to measure and follow up on data quality.
- Create Standard Work to cleanse and structure data for each planned purpose.
- Hold regularly scheduled meetings to ensure standardization of data stewardship.
- Work with Data Stewards to implement data cleansing plans and participate in root cause
- Maintain enterprise data issue log.
- Partner with business & IT to identify and facilitate resolution of data quality issues.
- Make recommendations on process changes to ensure data quality.
- Communicate final decisions to impacted stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Ability to build consensus across different functions and amongst colleagues of varying seniority
- Comfortable with team-based, collaborative work structure, and able to remain flexible with changes in the work environment
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Business, Computer Science, Economics or another quantitative field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Curiosity to stay current on visualization tools, techniques, strategies, and practices to push current thinking and drive the use of visualizing data to the next level.
- Detail-oriented with technical and problem-solving skills
- Interest in data visualization and drawing insights from data
- Creative thinker with an interest in analytics
