Upon graduation, our students are confronting a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive job market. It is therefore vital that we find ways, large or small, to prepare them now with the career readiness competencies desired by employers. For that, I have found the folks over at the Career Design Center indispensable. For my lower-level courses, I have their career design consultants come to my classes to deliver engaging career workshops on topics ranging from conducting informational interviews of career professionals to designing their very lives. Meanwhile, in my upper-level courses, I regularly require students to visit the Career Design CenterĀ for personalized, one-on-one feedback for improving their online professional profiles, resumes, and cover letters. Furthermore, the Career Design Center has a suite of online modules and videos that I pick and choose from in order to even further develop my studentsā skills. The best part? All this requires remarkably little of my time while markedly preparing my students for life after graduation.
