Elaine Y. Chow, as a collaborator with the Career Design Center (CDC) has bridged the gap between academia and industry. Coordinating the UB Architecture Virtual Career Fair, she recruits nationwide and local firms with the support from the CDC to utilize Bullseye from Handshake and Info/Prep Sessions by Ed Brodka. Her CDC partnership is deeply integrated into her portfolio seminar curriculum; she frequently hosts CDC experts like Ed Brodka for guest lectures on LinkedIn and networking, and she utilizes the Center’s resources to train students in essential job search skills, including resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques.
Beyond logistical coordination, Elaine acts as a vital conduit for student professional development. She actively steers students toward individual advising and career readiness workshops, ensuring they are empowered to navigate the transition from university to employment. By fostering this robust relationship between the Department of Architecture and the CDC, Elaine helps students build the confidence to articulate their skills and expand their professional networks, ultimately leading to successful career placements that reflect the impact of dedicated advising and mentorship.
