Enhance Your Resume and Make a Difference: Volunteer Opportunities Await!

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month!

It is the mission of the Buffalo Center for Health Equity (BCHE) to eliminate race, economic, and geographic-based health inequities in Western New York by changing the social and economic conditions that cause illness and shorten lives among the sickest of the region. In order to achieve this goal food insecurity must be addressed, especially in neighborhoods where healthy foods are already tough to come across. The BCHE’s First Fruits food pantry attempts to do just that. (https://www.buffalohealthequity.org/pantry)

The BCHE has partnered with the African American Heritage Co-op and Harvest House Buffalo to provide local families with this vital service. It is the goal of these three organizations to support as many families as possible with First Fruits pantry and your help can be instrumental in not only achieving this goal, but allowing the pantry to expand its scope and ability to positively impact the lives of those who utilize this program.

The First Fruits pantry is now located within Harvest House Buffalo on 175 Jefferson Ave. We kindly ask you to fill out the sign up sheet below to the best of your ability so the coordinator of the Good Neighbors Primary Care (within the Harvest House organization), Kailey McDonald (goodneighbors@harvesthousebuffalo.org) can plan accordingly. We estimate that volunteers would only need to dedicate approximately an hour/hour and a half of their time to help sort food items into bags and boxes for families to pick up, however, you are not obligated to stay for the entire time. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive between 10:30 and 11 am. You are welcome to sign up for as many dates as you wish as consistent help is always needed.

If you know of anyone who may be interested in volunteering here please share this document with them! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Alex Yunke (asyunke@buffalo.edu) or Kailey McDonald (goodneighbors@harvesthousebuffalo.org) or call (716) 855-0654.

For more information about Harvest House and their hours of operation, please visit this link: https://www.harvesthousebuffalo.org/.

To navigate to volunteer sign ups for the rest of the 2024 calendar year please look at the bottom of the document where there are tabs for different sheets listed as “April 2024”, “May 2024” and so on. Some dates may be subject to change in recognition of various holidays or Harvest House closures.

We look forward to seeing you!
